Visiting Hours & Procedures

The Whittier Jail ("Jail") temporarily houses both male and female persons arrested by the Whittier Police Department and the Sante Fe Springs Police Department. You may visit an inmate at the Whittier Jail, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. While no appointment is needed to visit an inmate at the Whittier Jail, visiting hours and availability of an inmate are subject to change without notice. Therefore, you should always contact the Whittier Jail prior to your visit. You can reach an officer at the Whittier Jail at any time by calling 562-567-9200. Attorneys, bail bondsmen and clergymen are permitted to visit at any time.

Visiting Limitations

There is no limit to the number of visitors an inmate may receive on days that inmates are permitted to receive visitors, except that the total allowable visiting time on any given day cannot exceed one hour. During any visit, an inmate may have up to two (2) adult visitors and an unspecified number of visiting minors—children under the age of 18, provided that the inmate is the parent and/or legal guardian of the visiting minor(s). Each visit with an inmate may be limited to five (5) minutes. An alleged victim of a crime for which an inmate is incarcerated at the Whittier Jail is prohibited from visiting the inmate who allegedly committed the crime/abuse.

Visitors' Restrictions

Only visitors with a valid photo ID will be allowed to visit inmates at the Whittier Jail. Officers at the Jail may deny visitation rights to anyone for any number of reasons. Visitors may be subject to search.

Telephone Access & Mail

During booking, the person being held at the Whittier Jail, ("the arrestee"), may make three (3) free telephone calls. Arrestees/inmates in custody at the Whittier Jail may not receive calls or phoned-in messages. However, in the event of an emergency, a jailor may convey a message to an inmate. Once housed, inmates may make unlimited collect calls. Since most inmates will be housed at the Whittier Jail for no more than 72 hours, excluding holidays and weekends, inmates are not permitted to receive mail. In addition, no mail may be sent to "pay-to-stay" inmates.
