Location
6240 Sylmar Avenue, Van Nuys, CA 91406. Although you may find metered parking on Sylmar Avenue near the Library, there are plenty of parking garages near the Jail.
Visiting Hours
You may visit an inmate at the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Community Jail & Police Station ("the Jail") Monday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Please note that the Jail's visiting hours and roster of inmates who are eligible for visits vary and are subject to change without notice. Therefore, you should always call the Jail at 818-374-9645 when planning a visit. The Van Nuys Jail generally books arrestees from the following communities: Sepulveda, Sherman Oaks, Valley Glen, Van Nuys, Ventura Business District and West Van Nuys.
Visiting Procedures
Generally, an inmate may receive one 15 minute visit per day every day of the week. During each permitted visit, an inmate may have one (1) visitor. Visitors under the age of 18 (minors) must be accompanied by an adult and have an ID. Attorneys, clergymen and bail bondsmen may visit at any time for as long as they like.
Visitor Restrictions
Only visitors with one of the following valid forms of ID will be allowed to visit inmates at the Jail:
- California Identification Card
- Driver's License (any state)
- U.S. Military Identification
- Passport/Visa
- Mexican Consulate Card
- Permanent Resident Card
- Valid School Identification Card or Birth Certificate (if visitor is a minor).
Although officers at the Jail may deny visitation rights to anyone for any number of reasons, visitors with outstanding warrants, traffic or parking tickets, ex-felons, persons on probation and persons formerly incarcerated in State prison may visit the Jail.
All visitors and all personal property brought into the Jail may be searched. Visitors in possession of weapons, illegal drugs or contraband may be arrested. Visitors should call the Jail to determine what personal items may be brought into the Jail.
Telephone Access & Mail
During booking, the person being held in jail ("the arrestee"), may be allowed to make a number of free telephone calls. Once booked, an arrestee may make unlimited collect telephone calls from the Jail. Because most inmates will be held at the Van Nuys Jail for no more than 48 hours, inmates should not be sent mail.
Mentally or Medically Ill Arrestees
A family member of a mentally and/or medically ill arrestee/inmate may immediately after the arrest of the family member call the Jail and provide the desk officer with the information regarding the arrestee's mental and medical condition and medications.
