Visiting Hours

If you are a permitted visitor, you may visit a minor at Eastlake Juvenile Hall on Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visits are at least 30-45 minutes in length but can be as long as three hours, if circumstances permit. You may also visit a minor at Eastlake Juvenile Hall on the day that a minor appears in court. Visiting Procedures

Eastlake Juvenile Hall, also known as "Central Juvenile Hall" is one of three juvenile detention centers in Los Angeles County. Each juvenile jail houses minors ranging in age from 8 to 18 who have pending court matters.

Minors at Eastlake Juvenile Hall can generally only be visited by parents, legal guardians, or grandparents. However, the judge or probation officer handling the minor’s case may permit siblings and other family members to visit with the minor upon request. The judge presiding over a minor's case may also allow a visitor in place of a minor's parent. To make a visitation request, contact the minor’s unit supervisor or probation officer.

Attorneys may visit a minor at Eastlake Juvenile Hall at any time. Members of the clergy who wish to visit a minor at Eastlake Juvenile Hall must be added to the minor's permanent weekend visitors' list—this may require a special order from a judge.

At the conclusion of their case, minors housed at Eastlake Juvenile Hall will either be released to their parents, placed in foster care, sent to a Los Angeles County Juvenile Camp or to CYA— the California Youth Authority. CYA is the last resort for housing and rehabilitation of minors, and is considered the state prison for minors since it houses a large number of violent offenders.

Visitors' Restrictions

Pens, purses, cell phones, and a wide array of other items are not permitted in the visiting area. In order to visit a minor at Eastlake Juvenile Hall, a visitor must follow a strict dress code. Among other things, visitors to Eastlake Juvenile Hall may not wear gang-affiliated colors, sexually revealing clothing, thigh-high dresses, or clothing containing the name of a sports team. Visitors must also cover their tattoos; if they cannot, they should contact Eastlake Juvenile Hall to have an isolated visiting location arranged.

Only visitors who present a valid form of photo identification will be permitted to visit minors at Eastlake Juvenile Hall. The following forms of ID are acceptable:

• Other Valid U.S. Government Identification Card
• Valid Passport or Visa
• Permanent Resident Card
• Mexican Consulate Card
• Alien Registration Card
• U.S. Military Identification Card
• Valid Birth Certificate or School Identification Card (if visitor is a minor who is 12 or older)

Eastlake Juvenile Hall recommends that visitors wear long pants and carry no more than two keys on a key ring in order to ensure that they are allowed to visit the minor.

Bail

Minors facing criminal charges in California typically have no right to bail. Until their arraignment, minors are either locked up or released to their parents’ custody. After the arraignment, the minor will remain in lockup or with their parents, if the judge decides, until their case is resolved.

Only parents or legal guardians of detained minors are able to access information regarding the minor and their case.

Telephone Access & Mail

While minors are not permitted to receive incoming telephone calls at Eastlake Juvenile Hall, they are permitted to make one (1) collect telephone call during a seven-day period provided they meet all the necessary requirements (for example, good behavior.) By mail, minors at Eastlake Juvenile Hall may receive soft cover books as well as cards and letters no larger than 5” x 7”. Minors may be sent photos but may not have more than five (5) photos in their possession at any given time. Photos may not contain gang-related images or sexual or violent content.

Picking Up Personal Property

Any time after detention, a minor's personal property may be picked up by his parent or guardian unless the minor's property has been entered into evidence. If the property has been entered into evidence, it will not be available until the criminal case is completed. The parent or guardian picking up the minor's property must present a valid California photo ID or a photo ID from an acceptable source.

To obtain the release of a minor's vehicle, contact the arresting agency who will provide you with the name of the towing company that you will need to contact to learn if the vehicle has been impounded or not.
