Visiting Hours

Located in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County east of downtown Los Angeles, the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail temporarily houses both male and female arrestees and trustee inmate workers (inmates who are serving out their sentences at the Jail). The Jail is operated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Although arrestees are generally not held in the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail ("Jail") for more than 48, excluding holidays and weekends, you may still visit an arrestee while he or she is there. Should you wish to visit an inmate at the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail, you may do so Monday through Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

You can obtain information about an arrestee/inmate at the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail by calling 323-264-4151. It is highly recommended that you do so before visiting because visiting hours and roster of inmates who are eligible for visits vary and are subject to change without notice.

While attorneys, members of the clergy and bails bondsmen may visit an inmate at any time for as long as they like, they should be prepared to present a valid photo ID, a California Bar card, if applicable, or proof that they are authorized to do what they claim to do.

Visiting Procedures

The East Los Angeles Sheriff Station & Jail has a stated policy regarding inmate visitation which may vary depending upon the activity occurring at the Jail when you visit. Generally, only two (2) family members of an inmate may visit at one time. However, children are not counted as visitors. You may be allowed to visit with an inmate for 10 minutes or for as long as 30 minutes if the Jail is not particularly busy. Inmates are permitted one visitation period per day. School age children, like adults, should be prepared to produce a valid photo ID.

Visitor Restrictions

Only visitors with a valid ID will be allowed to visit inmates at the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • California Identification Card
  • Driver's License (any state)
  • U.S. Military Identification
  • Passport/Visa
  • Mexican Consulate Card
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Valid School Identification Card or Birth Certificate (if visitor is a minor).

Officers at the Jail may deny visitation rights to anyone for any number of reasons. Persons on probation, parole or who have outstanding warrants and/or tickets will not be permitted to visit an inmate at the Jail.

Telephone Access & Mail

During booking, the person being held at the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail, ("the arrestee"), may make at least four (4) free long distance or local telephone calls. Arrestees/Inmates may not receive calls or phoned-in messages, but once housed, inmates may request permission to make additional telephone calls. Since arrestees will not be housed for more than 48 hours, excluding holidays and weekends at the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station Jail, you should avoid sending an arrestee/inmate mail at the Jail. However, mail may be sent to a trustee inmate worker at the following address:

Personal Property

If you are concerned about property in the possession of an arrestee when he or she was taken to the East Los Angeles Sheriff Station & Jail, you should know that at any time after an arrest, an arrestee/inmate may authorize the release of his personal property to anyone unless that property has been entered into evidence. If the property has been entered into evidence, it will not be available until the criminal case is completed.
